I’ve almost decided to buy a new Android smartphone this year. But being N900 user, I’m always drawn back for a Meego device. Here is why I still want a Meego device.
Best OS experience on smartphone: I love Maemo and its way ahead in terms of functionality, compared to even the latest version of Android and iOS. Yes, it doesn’t have multi touch and there is only one device from Nokia. But the most amazing features that Maemo has are still not or partially offered by any other.
Multi-tasking: The best feature of the OS. I enjoy texting 10 people at a time without even closing a single window and my other apps are also not affected.
Online Status: Just a single click to ‘Online’ status and I’ve logged in to my ovi, gtalk, skype and facebook accounts without opening any service app! Sharing photos online is also very simple.
Phone Call Type: No need to open other app for VoIP. I can access my skype calling from phone call window.
Open Source: It still surprises me how maemo developers are utilizing this platform for various purposes. Some of my favorite apps are Tweakr, Filebox, Petrovich; which integrates seamlessly with the OS and doesn’t seem to be entirely different app.
N900 Camera and FCamera: Truly an amazing combination. You can capture photos in RAW and with manual controls. I’m still exploring the possibilities of FCamera but this is one feature that only N900 has and none other can even come close! Here is an amazing picture that I recently captured: http://alturl.com/kmaoy
So these are my personal reasons why I’m still waiting for a Meego device. I believe Nokia is a strong competitor with OS but it lacks an amazing device. Yes, my N900 lags occasionally and this has made me to think for an Android device but I want to wait and wish for an amazing N900 successor announced this MWC.
I hope Nokia will shine at MWC this year. Here is what I expect to see.
• Best screen (+3.5” size) with resolution more than 800*480px. (it’s not because I want retina display :p)
• At least 1Ghz processor with powerful GPU and 1 GB RAM
• 8MP camera with large sensor, Carl Zeiss lens, Xenon flash and camera module not sticking out of the body.
• Strong support for mobile games.
I'm looking forward to all the mobile announcements at MWC
